Roofline

Roofline

Roofline has one sole purpose and that is to protect the structure of a building by diverting a roofs surface water into a soak away beneath the ground. Many buildings have wooden fascia and bargeboards that need constant maintenance to make them efficient. Whether it be painting or changing gutter joins when a screw has lost its hold, a decaying roofline will always be a losing battle.

Our replacement fascia, bargeboards and guttering are installed with a handful of factors in mind to make them withstand the elements that the seasons bring, without compromising their cosmetic appeal and longevity. Factors such as capillary action (where water seeps against its normal flow), water ingression and thermal expansion… all can whittle away a poorly fitted roofline over time.

In that respect, we only offer a full replacement roofline service. Capping over the deteriorated existing boards is similar to painting over rusted metal, a few months down the road and it starts to show again. Just because you do not look and study your roofline everyday does not mean that it doesn’t get used as much as any other part of your property every day.

Each roofline replacement is done in a series of stages, as follows –

Stage 1

Access equipment is erected where needed. Anglian RoofCare carry their own Class 1 access equipment and can organise areas that require scaffold. Once access is deemed fit to use, we commence with the removal of the roofline.

Stage 2

…… which is done in stages themselves. On guttering runs, where applicable, the first row of tiles are removed and felt cut approximately 10mm from the rear side of the fascia. Boards are then removed from their rafter feet and soffits are prized away to reveal nothing but the bare skeleton of the roof frame. Bargeboards are removed in a similar fashion and each piece of waste is then lowered to the ground.

Stage 3

Studwork is added where required to effectively make a strong ‘boxed’ fascia and soffit system. We use full 9mm thick soffit boards and 18mm fascia. We do not use thin, cheap boards across our roofline services, and we do not expect you to settle for them.
Our guttering is always installed with the total area of surface water drainage of a roof in mind. Downpipes are installed and all previous holes in the walls are filled to prevent water ingression into the brick or mortar.

Stage 4

Closing the eaves is done by using a vented tray and birdcomb to replace the felt that had been cut prior to removal. Using this product circulates the air inside the eaves and helps with any condensation in the attic space. Tiles are then hung back onto the battens and the cavities beneath the tiles are effectively filled by the fingers of the birdcomb. This is to prevent any vermin / pests to get inside. On gables, box ends are installed to the customer’s aesthetic requirements and all replacement roofline and windows are cleaned.

Stage 5

Access is dismantled and site is cleaned, leaving nothing but an improved roofline and a guarantee of work carried out. There is only so much enjoyment you can have whilst your home is being chipped away at! And we hope that you choose us to make your home improvement hassle free.
