EPDM Flat Roofing
EPDM Flat Roofing
EPDM is a type of synthetic rubber meaning ‘Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer’. When considering having an EPDM rubber roof installed you may be unaware that you have been using this material in many forms already. Used for its extremely versatility in extreme temperatures and water tight sealing abilities, EPDM was most probably used when you turned your taps on this morning (used in fast fix plumbing elbows for its sealant) and helped keep your exhaust fixed to your car for the past few years (used in hanger elements for its heat resistance). There are hundreds of uses for it in everyday life that would not function properly without it. With that said, EPDM is incredibly versatile and a perfect product in more ways than one.
Anglian RoofCare only use Firestone rubber EPDM for their installations. As one of the leading and most reputable organisations in their field, Firestone have been producing rubber since 1900. So, using a product that rests on over a hundred years of experience, we feel as if a tired old flat roof can be transformed to become a modern, stylish and hassle free improvement to any building, resting on the evolution of Firestone’s reputation.
Completely seamless, EPDM rubber roofs are laid as a single sheet so that no areas are a weakness to surface water ingression. Mineral felts degrade over time and are composed of, in some cases, dozens of strips that will part over time and are more susceptible to exposure to the elements. Upgrading a flat roof to EPDM ensures that you are protected from a wide range of harmful situations, such as thermal movement, extreme temperatures and general wear and tear.
No one wants to pay for a flat roof to be replaced more than once. More often than not, Anglian RoofCare replace a roof that has been redone a couple of times in the homeowner’s lifetime. Firestone rubber has a massive life expectancy of over 50 years and we only use ‘structure 2+’ OSB boards to make sure that your flat roof is not only protected by the best covering available, but that is it supported by a strong substrate that will not fail or break down over time. Also, EPDM does not support the growth of moss so you can be sure that your flat roof will not deteriorate in this way or become an eyesore if in view from a window.
EPDM is also one of the most environmentally friendly products available in roofing materials and completely recyclable. From the way it is made to the methods it can be applied, EPDM is made without any toxic properties, and therefore, does not pollute the rainwater that passes over its surfaces, down your downpipes and into the ground.
A flat roof that needs to be replaced could have a long list of existing flaws that can be rectified by the installation of a rubber roof. Whether it be more of a gradient to its surface, crowning of a joist, failing connection to an exterior wall or the choice to transform the area to have a thermal layer of insulation. Our Firestone accredited installers have years of experience in flat roofing and can completely transform a failing roof, leaving a neat and clean finish that will require less maintenance over the many years to come.
